How Will Apple Make Use of PrimeSense?

Apple made itself known to the world as a leader in innovation. It has been proven a number of times by the people who built it - Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs - and the products they yield. It has struggled for years to reach what it has accomplished today and now it is Tim Cook holding the reigns. What is next for Apple? No one can really tell what, only it is up to something big as displayed by the number of companies it has bought which got people all the more curious. One of its biggest investment and today's most controversial will be its acquisition of PrimeSense.

PrimeSense is an Israeli company known for their 3D sensors that the first generation Microsoft Kinect used. PrimeSense is a sensing technology that "gives digital devices the ability to observe a scene in three dimensions. It translates these observations into a synchronized image stream (depth and color) - just like humans do. It then takes those synchronized images and translates them into information such as identification of people - their body properties, movements and gestures; classification of objects such as furniture; location of walls and floor."

The assumed settlement was said to be at $345 million. This amount of purchase has driven the whole universe into thinking what Apple might be working on to give out that much. Some speculate it would be integrated to its Apple TV allowing an individual to change channels and whatnot with a simple gesture. Others believe it will be applied to their flagship Apple iPhones 5s and 5c or their next-generation smartphone that does not only unlock the device with a fingerprint but also through face recognition.

If such technology will be applied to their devices, it will be another innovation for the tech giant. If all happens according to plan, Apple will be invincible. There is no better time for this company to launch something as big as this than now. If it yet again passes on this opportunity, some other prominent giant might beat it to it just like what transpired with the smart watch. However, a question remains: If Microsoft had the right asset and probably something even more, within its hands, how is that they haven't come to the idea of incorporating sensing technology into their Windows Phone? Or maybe they have, oh yes, they must have. After all the necessary considerations made by Microsoft, why did it not pushed harder and tried to be first in innovation for once? And if Microsoft doesn't have the courage to stand up, who will? Why yes of course! It is Samsung that will follow and again, challenge its biggest rival. This may be a whole other discussion. Let's go back to Apple.

Whether it is the Apple TV, the smartphone industry, or a new set of latest gadgets, I truly hope this acquisition pays out. This could very well be Apple's biggest win or downfall.apple
